Japan’s VISA information(For foreigners)

We introduce VISA information for foreigners in the Philippines/ ASEAN countries who are planning to enter Japan.
Here it will cover cases where Filipino citizens travel to Japan for the purpose of short-term stay. We will be updated VISA information sequentially for other ASEAN nationals. Please wait for a while

Short-term stay visa for Filipino citizens is categorized as

As a general rule, visa applications are applied at the Japanese Embassy / Consulate General in each country before the applicant him/herself travels to Japan. If all documents prepared by sponsor(inviter) in Japan are ready, please send the all documents to the visa applicant.
In the Philippines, visa application will be done through the substitute application agency designated by the Japanese Embassy in Philippines.

Let ‘s take a look at the documents that will be necessary at the time of application for each case.

In applying for a short-term visa, there are 3 kinds of documents below.
・Documents prepared by Filipinos  ⇒ which is prepared in the Philippines
・Documents prepared by the inviter ⇒ which is prepared in Japan
・Documents prepared by guarantor  ⇒ which is prepared in Japan

Documents necessary for a short-term stay visa application for “Friends (acquaintance) visit / tourism”

【Documents prepared by Filipinos】

・Short-term stay visa application form
・Photograph
・Passport
・Birth certificate
・Marrige certificate (if married)
・Documents certifying acquaintance relationship(excluding sightseeing)
  (1)Photograph
  (2)International telephone call statement
  (3)Letter・email
  (4)Money transfer(shipment) records
・Income certificate or tax payment certificate of the applicant or his/her dependents and a passbook

【Documents prepared by the inviter】

・Reason for invitation
・Stay schedule
・Certificate of residence
・Material on Invitation Reason(Family Register Certificate etc)
・If the inviter is a foreigner, a copy of the residence card(Front and back)
・If the inviter is a foreigner, a copy of your passport(Photo page and immigration / residence permit page)

【Documents prepared by guarantor】

・Letter of guarantee
・One of the following documents
  (1)Final return
  (2)Balance certificate
  (3)Taxation certificate
  (4)Income certificate
  (5)Certificate of tax payment(Those in which gross income is stated)

Once all the documents prepared by the inviter and the guarantor are ready, send all the documents from Japan to the applicant (Filipino). After receiving the documents, the applicant goes to the Japanese embassy/ consulate office(in the case of the Philippines, substitute application agency), submit the necessary documents and apply for a visa.

Documents necessary for applying for a short-term visa for “Visiting relatives”

【Documents prepared by Filipinos】

・Short-term stay visa application form
・Photograph
・Passport
・Birth certificate
・Marrige certificate (if married)
・Income certificate or tax payment certificate of the applicant or his/her dependents and a passbook

【Documents prepared by the inviter】

・Reason for invitation
・Certificate of residence
・Family Register Certificate(if inviter or spouse is Japanese)
・Material on Invitation Reason(Medical certificate, maternal and child handbook copy etc)
・Stay schedule
・If the inviter is a foreigner, a copy of the residence card(Front and back)
・If the inviter is a foreigner, a copy of your passport(Photo page and immigration / residence permit page)

【Documents prepared by guarantor】

・Letter of guarantee
・One of the following documents
  (1)Final return
  (2)Balance certificate
  (3)Taxation certificate
  (4)Income certificate
  (5)Certificate of tax payment(Those in which gross income is stated)

・Documents of Travel expenses for evidencing the ability to pay
  (1)Business trip order document from the affiliation
  (2)Letter of dispatch
  (3)Documents equivalent to these

【Documents prepared by the inviter】

・Reason for invitation(Be sure to prepare)
・Stay schedule
・One of the following documents clarifying the activity
  (1)Intercompany transaction agreement
  (2)Conference materials
  (3)Documents of transaction products etc.
  (4)Documents equivalent to these
・Copy of corporate registration
・Company/organization overview
・Business license or certificate of employment

【Documents prepared by guarantor】

・Letter of guarantee

Once all the documents prepared by the inviter and the guarantor are ready, send all the documents from Japan to the applicant (Filipino). After receiving the documents, the applicant goes to the Japanese embassy/ consulate office(in the case of the Philippines, substitute application agency), submit the necessary documents and apply for a visa.

Let’s look about notes of caution of the documents.

  1. Unified all documents to be submitted toA4 size
    Please copy the non-A4 size document such as certificate of residence/balance to A4 size. And submit together with the originals.

  2. Philippine passport
    The followings are not accepted.
    ・Laminate peeled
    ・Not signed
    ・No 2 or more blank pages.
    ・Photograph peeled
    If there is no validity period of more than 6 months, you can not depart due to Philippine law.

  3. Visa Application Form
    Download visa application formand fill it in English.
    If not applicable, fill in “N/A”.

  4. Photograph of application form
    Within 6 months, the size is 4.5cm×4.5cm, upper body, the background is white only.
     Fill in your full name and date of birth on the back of the photo.

  5. Birth certificate

    Original document issued by PSA(using security paper), within one year from issue.

    In case unable to read the letter or the edge is torn, submit birth certificate issued by Local Government Office. In case no record in PSA, submit Non Record Certificate issued by PSA and a birth certificate issued by Local Government Office.

    When visiting relatives living in Japan, birth certificates of relatives living in Japan or of parents to prove relationship are also required.

    In case the birth registration is delayed registration,
    ・Baptismal Certificate (clearly stated if you know the fixed telephone number of the church)
    ・A transcript of the final school
    ・If there is a graduation album, submit original and copy.

  6. Marrige certificate (if married)
    Original document issued by PSA(using security paper), within one year from issue.

    In case there is no record in PSA, please submit a “Certificate of Non-marriage Record” from PSA together with the Marriage certificate from the Local Government Office.

  7. Stay schedule
    Download stay schedule formand fill in necessary information.
    Fill in the expected date of entry, departure date, address of residence, address, telephone number to Japan.
    Fill in the daily schedule during your stay.
    Fill in the date and the applicant’s name.

  8. Letter of guarantee
    Download the letter of guaranteeand fill in necessary information, applicant’s nationality, name (same as passport), date of birth and sex.

  9. Reason for invitation
    Download Reason for invitation.
    Fill in “Attention: The ambassador of Japan in the Philippines”.
    Regarding the purpose of the invitation, vague such as “sightseeing”, “relatives visiting”, but concretely filling in.
    Please fill in the name, address and telephone number of the inviter and be sure to sign.

    Please fill in the applicant’s name same as the passport.
    Depending on the reason for invitation, please attach a copy of medical certificate, maternal and child handbook, certificate of employment etc.

  10. Certificate of employment Submit applicant’s job title, position of affiliation and monthly income (annual income).

  11. Documents certifying income
    One of the following documents below
    ・Income certificate issued by city hall
    ・Tax imposition certificate issued by city hall
    ・Tax certificate with statement of gross income amount issued by tax office
    ・A copy of the final return form
    ・Bank deposit balance certificate
    Except for the bank balance certificate, the document of the latest year at the time of application.
     

    If you can not submit the above documents, it is also possible to do other relatives as guarantor.In that case, submit documents that prove the relationship with the guarantor and documents describing the reason why the guarantor has been requested.

  12. Family register certificate
    Only within 3 months from issue.

Please note that documents preparation are required on both Japan side and Philippine side in visa application.
